Indie Movies in the Science Fiction Genre
This category includes student films, indie films, and shorts. Admittedly
some films are difficult to categorize. For example, is Brazil and indie
film or not. While it had a decent budget it also was produced using many
of the characteristics of an indie film. If you have a film which you
can't decide which category to post it in, post in both the general list
and the indie list. It doesn't hurt to give the extra exposure.
|
We have separated classic and
indie films into
separate lists
in order to distinguish their contribution to the science fiction genre.
While some folks believe that remakes may approach or even surpass
the original films, we
believe the classics deserve a separate listing lest they be lost in the
overburden of new films.
If you know of movie that should be added to the indie movie list
use our indie movie submission form to
let us know. This will give the movie a bit of exposure and give
the science fiction community a broader spectrum of available
resources.

| A Scanner Darkly | | | review | Richard Linklater's movie daptation of the PK Dick sci-fi novel, A Scanner Darkly, is not to be confused with more successful PK Dick adaptations, notably Blade Runner & Total Recall. Unfortunately, this film fails to recreate the complicated and provoking plots of a PK Dick work. |

| Dark City | | | review | A Sci-Fi, Noir thriller. John Murdoch awakens alone in a strange hotel to find that he is wanted for a series of brutal murders. The problem is that he can't remember whether he committed the murders or not. He stumbles upon an underworld controlled by a group of beings collectively known as The Strangers. These shadow-like figures possess the ability to stop time and alter people's perceptions. Through an evolutionary anomaly, Murdoch is also imbued with this power and thus, he alone is able to resist The Stangers' control over his mind. |
